Direct Search Sources

Direct sources are Search Source modules that interact with one specific source - a search engine, web site, database, LDAP server etc.

Some Search Source implementations such as those that connect to a vendor search engine such as Autonomy or Fast work with a specific search API. Others, such as the HTMLSearchSource which submits searches to internet Web sites, or the SOAPSearchSource which can send queries to a search Web Service interact through protocol and can be configured to search against many sites that implement the protocol.
