Configurable string filter elements - enable modifications to be made to character strings. Used in many places to provide on-the-fly string manipulation.

The string filter set consists of two types of filter, basic string filters that operate directly on a character string and composite string filters that may coordinate separate filtering operations or apply selection, lookup or matching processes prior to filtering.
